Tribal beauty

Brazilian supermodel Isabeli Fontana on the cover of Vogue Paris November 2009. 2 kids later, and she still has a gorgeous body. Beautiful!

All hail McQueen

Always the man for the moment, Alexander McQueen has proved once again why his designs are so awe-inspiring. His Spring/Summer 2010 Collection was filled with beautiful prints which I think will definitely be popular among the buying public. The shoes, however, are another story - definite works of art, but not something for the faint hearted. Nonetheless, the man is a genius.

Love her!

My style inspirations

Tokyo Girls Collection

Alexa Chung

Alexander Wang

Agyness Deyn

Kate Moss

Miss Sixty

How would I describe my style inspirations? I would say, punk rock grunge meets Agyness Deyn + Alexa Chung + Kate Moss + Tokyo Girls Collection + a little Alexander Wang & Miss Sixty. I love the whole laid back look, with a couple of statement pieces. Definitely glam at night - I would wear 6 inch heels any day - but with sophistication. A little quirky, but sexy. You know, the girl with the leather jacket, faded jeans, killer heels and smoky eyes who looks effortlessly glamorous? Yip, that girl...

Break a leg...

Now, I don't know whether Miuccia Prada, Alexander McQueen and John Galliano are trying to kill these models, but these heels are insane! I wouldn't walk one step, let alone totter along the runway, in these. Seriously, these heels are weapons of mass destruction. No wonder one model didn't even show up for the Prada show last season the way she was so terrified. Ouch!

I absolutely love Tao Okamoto. She is a 22-year-old Japanese model and I think she is about to be one of the top Asian models around.

French Vogue has sparked outrage with its spread featuring, Lara Stone, in dark brown make-up. The shoot, for the October '09 issue, was styled by Carine Roitfeld and shot by Steven Klein. Some have called it racist, others have called it irresponsible, and others have simply called it artistic. Whatever your views are, it cannot be denied that the images are controversial. But then again, that is what we've come to expect from French Vogue...

Magdalena Frackowiak in the November issue of Vogue Nippon. Magdalena has certainly been at the top of the modeling summit for a while now, walking 54 shows this season. I love how her beauty is so unique ... she is the perfect muse.

Perpetuation of emaciation

Recently, the whole debate about the fashion industry perpetuating the ideal of thin women, has come to the fore. Now, there can be no denying that models are incredibly skinny and serious pressure is put on them to remain that way. Kate Moss has long been accused of starting the 'cocaine chic' trend - that is, a woman maintaining an emaciated frame as though she is using cocaine. Numerous models have been suspected of having anorexia and no one can forget the story of Luisel Ramos, a Uruguyan model, who died of an anorexia-related heart attack.

Stories such as this have caused action in the fashion industry to combat anorexia. Particularly, the Italian fashion brand, Nolita, ran the ad campaign 'No Anorexia' featuring Isabelle Caro, a 23-year-old anorexic, to raise awareness about the severity of anorexia. For me, the important question is, how are we reacting to these images of emaciated women? Are we outraged, or do we continue to buy diet pill after diet pill, to attain the skinny ideal? Do we not buy these fashion magazines and look down upon those who we deem to be overweight? I believe that the fashion industry should have a serious introspection about the images it projects to society; however, society should also question its part in the perpetuation of emaciation.

Tongue (un)tied

Ok, now remember that scene in 'The Devil Wears Prada' where Andy (Anne Hathaway) can't spell Dolce & Gabbana (lo & behold!), or that famous scene in 'Showgirls' where Nomi pronounces Versace as "Vur-says"...tragic!!! So in order to prevent those unfashionable mishaps, I have compiled a list of the some of the most frequently mispronounced labels and designers, as well as the CORRECT pronunciation:

Balenciaga: Bah-len-see-AH-gah

Bulgari: Ball-gah-ree

Burberry Prorsum: Bur-bur-ree Pror-some

Christian Louboutin: Loo-boo-tin

Christian Dior: Dee-yor

Commes des Garcons: Comb day Garse-on

Givenchy: Jhee-von-shee

Hermes: Air-mez

Issey Miyake: Eees-Ay Me-Yah-Kee

Jean Paul Gaultier: Sj-awn Paul Goat-ee-ay

Missoni: Miss-own-ee

Moschino: Mo-ski-no

Versace: Ver-saw-chee

Yves saint Laurent: Eve-san-Laur-ahn

Rihanna at Paris Fashion week

Hate her or love her, but you gotta admit, she can be stylish sometimes. (Love the Christian Louboutin shoes and the Chanel bag).

Bring on the men...

So I just noticed that over 90% of the people in my blog are female, so in the spirit of equality, I have compiled a couple of photos of some delectable male models from the Iceberg Ready-to-wear Fall 09 show... It never hurts to bring on the men right? (love the cartoon detail on the jersey's)
